Hotel AI Visibility · GEO
Be the hotel AI recommends
Travellers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews where to stay. We make sure your hotel is the answer, and that the booking path is one an AI agent can actually follow.
Ranking no longer decides the booking
When a traveller asks "where should I stay in [destination]?", they no longer get ten blue links. They get a short, curated recommendation, from ChatGPT, from Perplexity, or from Google's own AI Overview.
If your hotel isn't part of that answer, you're invisible at the exact moment of choice. And unlike a position-7 organic ranking that still gets some clicks, an AI answer that doesn't mention you gets you exactly zero traffic.
This is not a future problem. AI-powered search is already redirecting booking intent. The hotels that build AI visibility now will own the channel; the rest will pay more for every guest.
How AI search is changing hotel discovery, and what to do about it
What GEO is, and what it is not
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of making your hotel discoverable, trusted and recommendable by AI answer engines. It is not a rebranding of SEO, and it is not a prompt-engineering trick. GEO works on the inputs AI engines use to generate answers: entity authority, structured data, content citability and machine-readable conversion paths.
Think of it this way: SEO earns you a position on a results page. GEO earns you a mention inside the answer itself. The ranking factors overlap, but the signals, the format and the conversion path are different enough that hotels need a deliberate strategy for each.
How AI engines decide which hotel to recommend
AI answer engines don't rank pages the same way Google's classic algorithm does. They synthesise answers from multiple sources and choose which entities to cite based on:
- Entity clarity. Does the AI engine understand that your hotel is a hotel, where it is, what it offers and what makes it distinct? If your digital footprint is fragmented or contradictory, you won't be cited.
- Source authority. Is the information about your hotel corroborated across trusted sources, your own site, review platforms, travel publications, tourism boards?
- Content citability. Does your content contain clear, concise statements an AI can quote? Vague marketing copy ("an unforgettable experience") gives the AI nothing to cite. Specific, factual claims ("a 42-room boutique hotel in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, 200 metres from Istiklal Avenue") do.
- Structured data. Schema markup makes your hotel machine-readable. Without it, the AI has to infer facts from unstructured text, and it may infer wrong, or skip you entirely.
- Freshness. AI engines weigh recency. A hotel with regularly updated content, recent reviews and current offers is more likely to be recommended than one whose last update was two years ago.
The platforms that matter right now
Google AI Overviews
Google now shows AI-generated summaries at the top of results for a significant share of hotel queries. These overviews pull from the same index as organic search, but they select and cite content differently. A strong organic presence helps, but without entity clarity and citability, Google's AI may summarise your competitors instead.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT (with browsing and plugins) is increasingly used for trip planning. When a traveller asks "recommend a boutique hotel in Bodrum for a couple", ChatGPT pulls from its training data and live web sources. Hotels with strong, consistent entity signals across the web, and pages that contain citable, specific information, appear in these recommendations.
Perplexity
Perplexity cites its sources explicitly, which makes it the most transparent AI search engine for hotels. It also leans heavily on recent, authoritative content. If your hotel is mentioned in a recent travel article or review that Perplexity can access, you're more likely to appear.
Agentic search
The next wave: AI agents that don't just recommend a hotel but attempt to book it. In early studies, agentic search agents switched to a competitor roughly 46% of the time when the original hotel's booking path wasn't machine-readable. If your booking engine can't be navigated by an AI agent, you lose the booking even after being recommended.
What an AI visibility programme looks like
We work on four layers simultaneously:
1. Entity & authority
We establish your hotel as a clear, consistent entity across the web. This means aligning your Google Business Profile, your website's schema, your listings on review platforms, your Wikipedia/Wikidata presence (where applicable) and your mentions in travel media. The goal: when an AI engine encounters your hotel's name, there is zero ambiguity about what it is, where it is and what it offers.
2. Content citability
We audit and rewrite your key pages so they contain clear, quotable statements. AI engines cite sentences, not pages. Every important claim about your hotel, location, amenities, unique selling points, guest experience, needs to be expressed in a way an AI can extract and present verbatim.
3. Structured data
LodgingBusiness schema, Room, Offer, FAQ, Review, Event, we implement the full set of machine-readable markup so AI engines can parse your property without guessing. This also feeds rich results in classic Google search, so it's not wasted effort even if AI search grows slower than expected.
4. Machine-readable conversion
This is the piece most agencies miss. An AI agent that decides to book your hotel needs a conversion path it can follow: structured booking widgets, clean URL parameters, accessible form elements. If your booking engine is a black-box iframe that an agent can't navigate, the recommendation ends at "visit the website", and in agentic search, that's a lost booking.
How we measure AI visibility
AI visibility is harder to measure than organic rankings, but it's not unmeasurable. We track:
- AI mention audits. Regular queries across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews for your target terms, "best hotel in [destination]", "[trip type] hotel [location]", to see if and how your hotel appears.
- Citation analysis. When your hotel is mentioned, which sources does the AI cite? This tells us where to strengthen your authority.
- Competitor benchmarking. How do your direct competitors appear in the same queries? This identifies gaps and opportunities.
- Trend tracking. AI visibility over time, are you appearing in more queries, in more platforms, with more specificity?
This is what our AI Visibility Index captures. It's not a vanity score, it's a structured baseline and trend tracker so you can see whether the work is moving the needle.
GEO and SEO work together, not instead of each other
A strong organic presence feeds AI visibility. AI engines often cite the same pages that rank well organically. Structured data helps both classic and AI search. Content authority and link signals are inputs to both systems.
The difference is in the optimisation: AI engines need citable passages, entity consistency and machine-readable booking paths that classic SEO doesn't specifically require. We build both in one integrated process, GEO is not a separate invoice, it's a layer on top of the SEO foundation.

Frequently asked questions
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO earns a position on the results page; GEO earns a mention inside the AI-generated answer. The ranking factors overlap, entity authority, quality content, structured data, but GEO specifically requires citable content, entity consistency across the web and machine-readable conversion paths.
Which AI platforms do you cover?
Primarily Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, the three platforms where most travel-related AI queries happen today. We also monitor Gemini, Copilot and emerging agentic search agents as they become relevant for your markets.
Can you prove AI visibility?
Yes, through our AI Visibility Index. We baseline where your hotel appears today across AI platforms, track changes over time, analyse which sources get cited and benchmark you against direct competitors. It's structured measurement, not guesswork.
Do I need GEO if I already do SEO?
Yes, a strong organic presence helps AI visibility, but it's not sufficient. AI engines need citable passages, consistent entity signals and machine-readable booking paths that classic SEO doesn't specifically address. The good news: GEO layers onto SEO, it doesn't replace it.
What is agentic search and should I worry about it?
Agentic search is AI that doesn't just recommend but acts, booking a hotel, comparing prices, completing the transaction. Early studies show agents abandon hotels with non-navigable booking paths about 46% of the time. It's early, but the hotels that prepare now will have a structural advantage.
How long does it take to appear in AI answers?
It varies by market and competition. Entity and structured-data fixes can influence AI outputs within weeks. Building the authority that earns consistent, prominent citations typically takes 3–6 months of sustained work.
How much does this cost?
GEO can be a standalone service or part of a broader SEO engagement. Standalone GEO typically starts from $2,000/month; combined SEO + GEO engagements from $4,000/month. We scope after a discovery call.
What if AI search doesn't grow as fast as predicted?
Every GEO optimisation also benefits classic search. Structured data improves rich results, entity authority improves organic rankings, citable content earns featured snippets. You're not betting on one outcome, you're building visibility that works regardless of how fast AI search grows.
